That doesn't necessarily mean it has to be good quality. should be scored based on if they help the anime or not. To me, aspects of an anime like art, music, Not much else to say but that each episode will leave you thinking both, "wtf did i just watch" and "i need more". There are episodes about a man who can fly using the rotation powers of his spatulas, invitations to go romantically peeing together, fashionable wearing of sumo wrestler underwear (fundoshi), death by cat cafe and many other ridiculous things. *SKIP TO THE BOTTOM TO READ TO SOMETHING YOU SHOULD KNOW BEFORE WATCHING*Įach short, three and a half minute, episode explores a new character in this wonder parody harem. If you like fun gag based anime you should check it out. The boys at the factory and I had a great time watching this while having our weekly sleep over. I absolutely loved this television program, my compliments to the chef. The only reason I'm not giving this section a 10 is because there simply aren't enough handsome men in this show. It's almost better to not even look at them as characters as much as tools used to facilitate gags. You have the hapless main character who doesn't even have a face, there's the stoic but lovable deep down Shiga-kun and the closeted sexual predator Principal Jirou. This is as it should be, as each character is the physical embodiment of all the yaoi cliches the guys down and the factory and myself know and love. The characters in this program are flatter than piss on a plate. That being said, nothing about the sound is distracting and it serves to complement the visuals and writing rather than provide substance in and of itself. The opening and closing music is very charming and, once again, reinforces this as a parody. When I'm not using heavy machinery that is of course, safety in the workplace is extremely important and I have no desire to bare witness to another accident.

Despite this, the show is very visually expressive and every boy is visually unique and handsome.ĭuring long days at the factory there's nothing I like more than to plug in my iPod and listen to the soundtrack of Gakuen Handsome. It's very reminiscent of the very low quality anime characters the weird girls who sat in the back of my math class in middle school used to draw. Anway, the art style is very simplistic but it's plainly intentionally so and it serves to reinforce that this is a parody. For what it's worth, most of those handsome men now work with me at the factory.

The art style really brought me back to those halcyon days in high school before I got a job at the factory when I was surrounded by all these handsome boys developing into handsome men. On a visual level, this program is classy and refined. If I could use one word to describe the art it would be 'handsome'. I went into this television program as a heterosexual man and I emerged as something stronger. One of the guys down at the factory mentioned a quirky little show called Gakuen Handsome and how it was a pretty funny parody of the Boy Love programs we all know and love so I figured hey, I'llĬheck it out. I'm your average Joe Sixpack, I work my 9-5 at the factory and in the evenings I like to unwind with a cold refreshing Bud Lite and a nice Yaoi. Jean-Paul Sartre once said "You've got to take life as it comes, even when it hits you in the eye and drips down your chin." This was my approach to this anime, in the beginning anyway. The type of viewers who will like enjoy this definitely had unironically enjoyed a doujin or something that was probably not much better than this. I've read quite a few cringeworthy BL manga and I can say that this short animation portrays all the faults you can find there with the perfect satirical touch. I laughed to the point of tears while watching this show. It's a perfect parody.Īs someone who grew up on anime, this show brought me into a nostalgic state of when I started started trying to create my own images on MS paint. Every line is either super rapey or absolutely stock. That (again) the horrible art is intended.Įvery trope and stereotype exists in this show. Goes to show that the animators actually do know what they're doing. The characters are exaggerated versions of BL art style and the main character has no face which makes it fairly quirky Literally every possible thing is wrong with the art, shading, proportions, perspective, everything. The pointy chins, the yaoi hands- all intended.

Imagine every thirteen year old's deviant art account when they started watching anime. Unless you've been a weeb since the days of newgrounds, you're not going to get this.
